Art in Grief

Please join Art Is Life Studio for Art in Grief, an event artfully honoring the grieving process from 6-10 p.m. April 21 at Yeager Office Suites of Plano.

I decided to co-produce this show with my Creative Assistant, Jaclyn Sartore, because I recently lost my beloved cat, Tiger Lily, after 14 years together. One thing that I had to get over was realizing that a loss is a loss, so when I was tempted to think she was just a cat she was so much more than that, because she was with me through very pinnacle times in my life. When we grieve we are experiencing loss of all kinds, not just a loving companion but an opportunity, a dream, a friendship or when we go through life-altering changes.

This show is an intimate event about working through the process through several art mediums and experiences. Our schedule of events includes a writing workshop, spoken word, guided meditation, and music. All materials will be provided for the workshop. Certified grief recovery specialist Linda Jones, The Writing Doula, will also be speaking about the misconceptions of the stages of grief. The wonderfully talented Lorynn the Redhead will be performing.

Current artist list includes:

Brassfly Studio, Myriah Garcia, Marilyn Vicente, Penelope Berg Paintings and Samax Amen

If you are interested in participating as a performer or speaker on our schedule, please contact us at Art will be on display in addition to the line-upand local vendors will be on site. If you would like to be a vendor, cost is $20 and limited to four tables. You can pay here:

Be mIND valentine - Valentine's Party

Art Is Life Studio is hosting a Valentine’s party on Feb. 12 from 6-9 p.m. at it’s new location in Yeager Office Suites of Plano. We are really excited for this event because it will also serve as a fundraiser for the Brain Injury Network of Dallas, a non-profit organization we love.

Cost is $10 which includes FIVE raffle tickets to win awesome local offerings donated by everyone from local artists to professional services — some of which will be on hand selling some of their wonderful items! There will be live music from singer/songwriters Zach Pohl, Kelly Nygren and Lorynn The Redhead. And a special visit from Cupid who isn’t camera shy and we will be taking photos.

Relocation Sale & Coloring Party

Hey, this is Jenice. Art Is Life Studio is moving to Yeager Properties of Plano next month and I am having a sale and coloring party from 5-10 p.m. November 19 as a send off. Of course this is very bittersweet. The new co-working location has a lot of possibilities. But this location I have been in for almost 2 years has been a haven. I will still host and co-host events as well as pop-up art openings in this new space. I am really going to miss my Richardson location but see so much potential for the future at Yeager.

I will have art, some furniture and other items for sale. There will be plenty to color and we will have snacks. Please bring cash, if you can. I accept credit cards but will charge for the nominal fee I have to pay to use Square services. I really hope to see you, as this is a come-and-go event. If I tear up, I’m fine. I’m fine!

Donations and kind words for this move are accepted.

You may wonder WHY PLANO? Well some folks were wondering WHY RICHARDSON, too. We live in North Garland, which isn’t far from either location and easily accessed for us. Contrary to what some may believe, I’ve had a lot of support from Plano-area folks and the Plano Chamber of Commerce has been a great part of that. I do recognize and appreciate the people from all over the Metroplex that have made the studio stay alive. There are art communities away from Dallas proper, even though we know Dallas is a huge, vibrant art city.

Deb and Sar: A Mother and Daughter Exhibit

We are excited to have the art of Debbie and Sarah Richman at our studio for this delightful pop art inspired mother/daughter show. Reception is July 8 from 7-10 p.m.

Debbie Richman:

Currently residing in Dallas, Texas with her husband and two daughters, Debbie Richman was taught all forms of art at the Arts Magnet High School for the Performing Arts and Visual Arts at Booker T. Washington with an emphasis on canvas painting. She continued her art education at The University of Texas in Austin and received a Bachelor of Art degree in Art. Upon graduation, Debbie worked in the graphic design field for over six years until she and her husband decided to start a family. Her daughter was the perfect inspiration to reconnect Debbie with her painting, but this time on walls instead of canvas.

When her daughter’s room became a local showpiece, she began a career painting murals for children’s rooms. Recently, Debbie chose to trade in the walls and return to her canvases combining the whimsy of her murals with the elements of her graphic design. When asked what style she considers her paintings to be, Debbie simply answers “POP”. Her work has caught the eye of many newspaper editors and been featured on more than two dozen newspapers covers across the country and in Canada. She has also exhibited at over a dozen venues throughout the Dallas metroplex and in New York, New Orleans, New Jersey and Toronto.

Sarah Richman:

Throughout her childhood, Sarah Richman was encouraged by her family to pursue music, theatre, and visual arts. As a recent graduate of the theatre cluster at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Sarah pushed herself by taking four theatre classes (including musical theatre,) three visual arts classes, and private voice lessons. Her senior year, she had seven pieces featured in the Painting and Design Show at Booker T. She will be attending Columbia College Chicago in the fall, with intentions of an Interdisciplinary Arts major.

Light refreshments will be served at the reception. Art Is Life Studio is an alcohol-free enviroment located on 1200 E. Collins Blvd. in Richardson, TX. Look for us between Glenville and Plano Roads.
