In Bloom by Joshua Chapman

We are starting the NEW year with a brand NEW artist in our NEW location! We are debuting the artworks of Joshua Chapman in a show tittled “In Bloom” from 3-7 p.m. January 14 at Art Is Life Studio in the lovely Yeager Properties.

Joshua, 19, began painting less than a year ago and finds inspiration from the iconic artist, David Bowie. The themes of Joshua’s work are about past relationships, how he perceived them and how he has dealt with thoughts in his own mind. Some questions he has asked himself over this creative time in his life are, “Can flowers bloom from barren soul? Can I still love someone from a damaged head?”

Joshua is not afraid to admit that he deals with hallucinations, anxiety, depression and alcohol addiction. He said painting helps cope with past pain.

“I never really saw the world in color — everything looked really dull and drab before I started painting,” he said. “One day I was in awe of trees, the sky and all that I saw. I found a love of flowers and want to incorporate them in my work.”

Joshua’s favorite medium is watercolor and describes his art as abstract, but said he hopes, as he improves, that he can move more into surrealism.

“Painting makes me happy. Even if I don't like what I create — it is such a good feeling to do it,” he said. “I’m hoping that by showing vulnerability through my art, I may be able to help
someone experiencing the same issues.”

“In Bloom” is the first of many one-day-only shows at the studio and you don’t want to miss it. Refreshments will be served and as always, alcohol is not permitted.
